Wet your whistle

Wet your whistle

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Singing love songs ... bathing in the rain....

"
Red-shafted and Yellow-Shafted Flickers
love gentle water movement
They wear a gorgeous coat feathered in black and gold
as if dressed for the opera
Hummingbirds dip, dive, dance and frolic
like crazy when they bathe
They drink nectar up to eight times their  weight
and love a light mist.
Their bodies glow like sparkling rainbows...
Wet your whistle and and love a thistle

A poem to hug and learn, Pat. I love to read your poems, learn about your visitors. Seems you welcome birds and insects I've never heard of, dear lady. As your next reviewer says, you really are an educator. I would add, if may, that you make learning so enjoyable!!! 'Hummingbirds dip, dive, dance and frolic ' Such a super sweet phrase

Natures dance in glorious technicolour, beautiful and enthralling when you watch, and just as beautiful for the absent minded thought while busy elsewhere, that although you missed them today, a smile emerges at the knowing it is going on, regardless of being viewed or not.
Beautifully captured Pat.

these tiny things are indeed jewels of the sky, or at least that patch of sky they chose to play in... you are not only a poet Pat, you are an educator too.. amazing.. eight times their weight.. if I tried that, I would not have the strength to raise an eyebrow, let alone anything else.... N x

You are so much like my mother and sister. Birds, flowers, and love. What more could a woman ask for. I like your different subjects from my own. Valentine

"Wet your whistle and and love a thistle". Loved the line. It contains the wisdom of love & the garlic flavor of nurtured heart. Nice flow of ink.

Ten fairly brief lines that paint the most beautiful set of pictures. You use words from a grand palette, Patricia.

You write really beautiful and exquisitely penned nature poems. Descriptive but very clear and defined. The personification was wonderful.
