Singing love songs ... bathing in the rain....

Red-shafted and Yellow-Shafted Flickers 

love gentle water movement 

They wear a gorgeous coat feathered in black and gold 

as if dressed for the opera 

Hummingbirds dip, dive, dance and frolic 

like crazy when they bathe 

They drink nectar up to eight times their  weight  

and love a light mist. 

Their bodies glow like sparkling rainbows... 

Wet your whistle and and love a thistle

dear Ana... how charming of you to find a feathery poem in the archives of my mind. I adore Birds and love to include them in poetry. I often wonder where they sleep at night. There use to be a lot more Crevices and places to give them shelter. Hummers are unbelievable with non-stop energy it seems. The Nectar must be like a steroid for them. Thanks for your visit ... hope you are prepared for Indian Summer later on.
