Mrs.Dollaway Grace

Mrs.Dollaway Grace

A Poem by Patricia Hernandez
"

A 50's wife who is abused, but must put on a happy face because women were made to please their man.

"

Mrs. Dollaway Grace, epitome of a wife,

Short, trim haircut, and a cashmere sweater,

She cooks and cleans with love, that’s all to her life,

It’s not like a woman can do any better,

Oh! Ms. Dollaway Grace, envy to all women,

That fresh face and quiet voice,

She has all blessings the lord could’ve given,

She doesn’t make much noise,

Ah! Ms. Dollaway Grace, with her 60 year old husband,

She’s only 20, what a lucky man!

She hides her bruises from her husband’s angry discussion,

Even though last night she didn’t say a damn,

But our young Mrs. Dollaway Grace knows how to behave like a lady,

So she flashes her million dollar smile every evening,

But outside of anyone’s notice, she cries for her 2nd lost baby,

It was all because of her husband’s beating,

Finally, Mrs. Dollaway Grace, who had a forced marriage,

Lived under her husband’s command,

And as the years went on, her happiness completely perished,

Which didn’t matter, as long as she worked for her man.
