Right and Wrong

Right and Wrong

A Poem by Aendraelyn Keibetsu

Right and Wrong.

Good and Evil.

Concepts that are accepted by all.

But are they truly there?

We accept, accept,

because society says it’s so

Society, with rules,

and laws,

and punishments,

and its rightness in our lives,

It’s assumed correctness,

purely because society is there that we view it

as God.

Society calls those that break

its laws

criminal, evil, wrong.

Monster.

But is that not tyranny?

Crying heresay, blasphemy,

insanity,

all because one doesnot follow false.

False guidelines.

False morals.

Is it not society that is crazy?

That is insane?

That is a monster?

We shun those who oppress,

when we all,

by following society,

are the oppressors,

not the oppressee.

I especially enjoyed this poem because I just finished a Philosophy course in college and this poem reminded me of everything I learned in it: societal norms and the like... "False guidelines... False morals." hit me hard at the end of the long stanza. I really enjoyed this poem!
