WeightsA Poem by Sophie B.When something/someone drags you down, it can be the end of you
Down I am dragged
Kicking and screaming, my breath ragged Chains clanking as I fall to the ground Only I hear the sound Weighing me down, sinking quicker and quicker The rocks on the walls I struggle to hold on to get slicker Gravity never has been so aggravating Its pull on me excruciating As I attempt to take a breath, my lungs fill with water The weights bring me down deeper underwater I scratch at the air Hoping to find oxygen somewhere At last the life begins to drain from me I hear the scream of the banshee Closing my eyes, I gladly go into death’s embrace Calmly, I accept my fate © 2023 Sophie B. |
