Poison

Poison

A Poem by Sophie B.

I am radioactive isotope
Quickly decaying as I fail to cope
You better watch out for my radiation will slowly destroy your livelihood
At first it’s some small joint pain
Then next thing you know you’re insane
Too late to save the limb
Things are looking very grim
Cut it off and the pain gets worse
But eventually it heals, you survived the curse
Run, run away from me
See how I have made you bleed?
Save yourself from my poisoning

I am influenza
I might seem harmless but in hours you could be dead
Oh this sickness will go away
Dear that is what they all say
Oh I don’t need a vaccine
I’ll just stay home and keep my hands clean
Next thing you know you’re in a hospital bed
Hovering on the edge of being dead
If you manage to live
Retreat, stop giving me all that you give

Burying myself six feet under
It is such a wonder
That I wasn’t kicked to the curb
I guess my friends are that superb
But it is my turn to protect
Even though my life is wrecked
I hope you are all better without me
Now that I’m dead we are all free
