EscapeA Poem by Sophie B.A metaphor for escapism and how it always ends with being forced to face reality.
Longingly she gazes at the horizon
The water shimmering and twinkling like a diamond In her eyes the sea is an underwater world of wonder Adventures galore hidden by the shadow of the world under Under the sea she goes And fish come out of the coves Greeting the rejected girl To her, she had found a beautiful pearl But then a clap of thunder and a flash of lighting Just as her sense of happiness began heightening Comes a storm vicious and unforgiving Leaving nothing but the girl living The reefs lay in ruins Bodies big and small litter the sea floor, their scales translucent Death all around While under a rock the girl is safe and sound Paradise lost Now she truly sees her escape’s cost With nowhere left to go, to reality she must return She emerges from the water, her mouth in a permanent downturn Hatred for existence She prays for assistance Escape destroyed Forever her soul is trapped in the dark void © 2023 Sophie B. |
