Never AgainA Poem by Sophie B.A poem written in honor of International Holocaust Rememberance Day. Please note, as with the Holocaust this poem is sad and slightly graphic.
The smell of burning flesh fills the air
Into pieces the young men’s souls do tear Elderly, weak, sick and infants alike Are found useless by the monsters and banished from this life Shoved into the fire by the forced hands Of the ones found strong trying to survive the Nazi’s evil plan A shower to a naïve observer it may seem Shiny and lustrous the deadly pipes gleam But none of the prisoners are fooled For they know of the savage killing machine Piled one on top of the other To have the most fatal power possible Work, work, all day and all night All skin and bones, the walking dead to the regime’s delight Revolt and you’ll see If you’re lucky A bullet as your end But to be truthful my dear friend Many are hanged on the gallows While others are forced to watch, their cheeks and souls so hollow 12 million dead Many more physically and psychologically injured By this horrible atrocity orchestrated by Adolf Hitler Jews, Poles, handicapped and gays Were all persecuted and had to pay For being who they are Yet Hitler’s eugenics say they are weak and don’t belong The hate is not gone It is present everywhere Just look around these group oppression hasn’t come to an end We continue to mend The hearts of the affected As survivors succumb to age That they never thought they’d see The time is now for us to be Their living legacy Never can we ever forget זכור,זכור,זכור* Never again *This is the hebrew word for remember. It is pronounced zachor © 2018 Sophie B. |
