Lithium

Lithium

A Poem by Sophie B.

Scream, punch, kick, gun
Is this the view of me for everyone?
Murder, stealing, drugs
I’m not just another statistic for you to count
One minute happy
One minuted depressed
Yes, I am different from all the rest
So my brain was not built like yours
So I have been like this since I was born

Why does that make me
Dangerous and unstable
How can you think
That I am able
To hurt someone
True I might’ve cut once or twice
And I will always give advice
To avoid this act

But that doesn’t change the fact
That I am not a criminal
I am not drug addict
I am perfectly capable of making my own decisions
Don’t box me in
Don’t lock me up
I’m more than the label that I will always have
But I am not bad

I am bipolar
I will shout it out loud
Scream it and see what the world rebounds
I will not be scared
I will not hide
This stigma must be gone before I die

It’s ok to need help
You needn't be shy
We don’t need anymore suicides
Yes, they will stereotype
Sadly, that’s my life
Push against the hate
Help us all out
It’s time to change our fate
