Lettre 11

Lettre 11

A Story by Patches I'm not so new anymore.

Juin 30 1218

Dear Maman & Aunt Jehanne

We have been moving at a furious pace these last few days hoping to catch the retreating crusaders before they cross back into France. Somehow, only God knows how the bulk of the Army of Christ managed to break free of our vise and head north.

Count Ramon and the Count of Foix have evened the score (somewhat) with the tactal victory our combined armies won near Beziers.

The massacre of the townspeople of Marmande of which we have just recived word was as terrible as the massacre that Le Boucher, now dead by a divinely directed stone perpetrated at Beziers nine years ago. I pray that his soul roasts in the lowest pit of hell.

The French are beyond our vengence having crosse the border to safety just three days ahead of out advanced force. The war is not yet over, we still have pockets of

enemy stragglers to clear out but the fighting should be light and the poltroons defeated with ease now that the main army is gone and has left them to our tender mercies.

Le Bon Dieu willing I should be back in Lecco witin a few months and Occitania free of French ambitions for a long time to come if not permentily.

It is my fervent prayer that  total victory will be ours before the onset of winter and that I may return to the warmth and love of my family for the rest of my alotted earthly time.

                          Your son & nephew

                           Raphael
