FEEDING THE DUCKS IN WINTER

FEEDING THE DUCKS IN WINTER

A Poem by Richard

So here we were again

feeding the ducks in winter

i know they were there before us, yes i saw them

on the ice as it cracked and splintered

so unconfusing, with so much to say

with the wings that flapped

nothing cryptic, but with our feeding

would they get trapped?

i survived once sadness, before i knew who i was

my sadness rolled off me like the oil from your wings

they wouldn't be afraid and run with you close by

even come up close to the surface and stand idly by

as the small gap of water near them jagged teeth

the ice grew and hollered and broke and split apart there

but i stayed by your side and wouldn't fly

if you wouldn't

no more bread now

the ducks weren't shy

the sun was feeling generous too

wanted us all to be our best, i guess so

fed in winter

to come up for air for time to time

spring back from disappointments

build a home

look each other directly through

and fly together

because we love each other

we love each other

A spoken peace. Expressing how you feel. Putting pen to paper is our medicine. Nice job!
