A Poem by Richard

Act I.

forever and the silk curtain

acting out

open space, unoccupied space, the wild spaces

sunlight breathing in it's crooked sunlight

fields and fields of it confessing to you

now take this out of the equation

letting grievance tunnel under

resurfacing, a balancing act, the first of many

and the black matters

you find there's very little not to be concerned about

when the dust hits the road

a death too uncertain to mourn too bare

a loss by any other life and it threatens

threads of what's real and handfuls of fake

so much more driveway and it was all unpaved

the four seasons of warmth and everyone else

leading into the second act

you chipped through the darkness

so, surprised and alone, just left something blow

catching the feather

you were penetrating deep into your soul

weaving and waking

bypassing hate

I couldn't believe I couldn't express

I failed you this

Act II.

two trains pass each other but say nothing

they can't get on

and they can't get off

they make it perfectly clear they intend to do nothing nowhere out of turn

but pass sparking just letting off steam

and by that, ride off in opposite direction

guilt-ridden and frustrated so says the engine

they tear up the track

and though sparks flew

they want nothing to do with each other the embarrassment

of explaining and not caring

and just like that their cargo is baggage emotional metal

no passageway no passengers very few now

and they can't in good conscience

come down off this high high bridgebeam

where people sulk until nighttime

referring back to their hearts

so unusual

saying goodbye

and hurting

it's not so metal

Act III.

the frost and the steam

come together as one

breathing

and living

and loving

and looking

and laughing

and feeling

and forgiving

and learning

and playing

and find together

so much more can be done

and forever never really considered

home
