Spring Of This Year

Spring Of This Year

A Poem by Richard

Between the lush graveyard

and the haunted garden

as they work as a team

to keep the peace

 a friend once told me

“No one NEEDS somewhere special just someone special to be there with” and I took that as a joke

“Why would anyone want to be somewhere with you?”

he wasn’t laughing

his cheekbones said it all

Just a simple observation

 I now realize it was

isn’t so simple to achieve

not for him

not for me

because first, where you are, not where you’ve been

determines character

and eyes will show it

fortification has no preference

and designation disregards the past

happiness is not at random

and love distinguishes no caste

I’ve said it once and I’ve said it before

but I don’t remember what it was

I was hoping you’d remember

but, the cutest thing

you made up your own version

and I didn’t bother correcting you

and just like this poem

the story changed

from a dream I once had

to a dream you claimed yours

but I was there

I was with you

I unveiled your gauze and let me just say ..

I didn’t look away.
