away, away, away

away, away, away

A Poem by Richard

Ordinarily, I would never tell a stranger what kind of toothpaste I use

not the gel, not the paste, not the adhesive - no way!

just because my shirt's tucked in sometimes

and my pants are too short

and my button is in the wrong hole

and your belly is showing

I will gladly take you by the hand and tell you you're 'simple' and in the very best way

I love simple, because I love to play

so take my hand

and I'll run a bath

for your turtle

he's got one hard outer shell

so offending him is impossible

I, too, feel like I have a shell

where the rain spills in like a leaky drain and a bubbly cauldron

If I'd known better I'd say I was thirsty

for adventure

like it's a record store day!

the wind took a nap, hooray

mother ostrich in her nest, falls right off her egg

though that sounds quite insensitive

love falls off, eventually

but still you paddle upstream

and choose the apple over the orange

because "the apple is the tomato of the kitchen"

and our fertility is the pomme de la vie

and your turtle with his turtleneck, adorable

…but kind of crazy

I'm just saying

if you put your hand up my sleeve

I'll never leave.
