Downcast

Downcast

A Poem by Richard

There’s a girl who finds she’s fast asleep
despite the sound of vicious howls and night light owls
and the absence of a father
by the time I knew what was going on
i felt the dawn begin to break-down
how long would it take now?
she let her eyes wander like the sea
except she was distant

or the sea was omniscient
i didn’t listen
everything was wrong and it felt all too familiar
the reading glasses
with the broken lenses
under the streetlight

made me think about the circles of life
like symbolic pictures
beneath the glitter on her eyelids
it was time now
but without a kiss, or a father
she wouldn’t bother
with her make-up (facial artwork)

anymore..
i had to warn her
she had to know
but had no place to go
or so it goes
then something happened that opened her eyes wide
something was slipping through the crack under the moonlight

she sat up straight
and formed a shadow

in the doorway
she saw a figure

maybe father?

had he not forgot her?

after all, a miracle was due in a town

with no more smiles

heart blindness

for miles

all the orphans

in the files

including the boy who

killed her

dreams

and left her downcast
he was the outcast
who looked like her father

in an oily reflection

on her left cheek

dropped some water
