The happenstance of harper hippo

Above the armoire
next to the model airplane
you’ll find the happenstance of Harper Hippo
He’s the elephant in the room
don’t let him know you think so
but don’t burst his bubble about it either
He’s an illusion to those who don’t believe
but a gesture of good will to those who reprieve
give him your love and he’ll give you a gravy boat
full of, you guessed it, marshmallow sand
and grapefruit light, melting a hot sand beach
so watch your feet and tread careful
because if you plan to do your homework
look no further, don’t look at all, he’s sensitive
stuck in his routine - and you could get stuck too
if you give Harper Hippo the time of day
and if you’re lucky he’ll accept it and knit you a sweater
Give him time, he works at his own pace!
