The Dream

The Dream

A Poem by Dara
"

Romantic musing to escape the ‘fray’.

"
We dance to the rhythm of the waves
lapping along the sandy beach,
skin glistening in the moonlight
accompanied only by the lonesome
sound of a foghorn blowing
in the distance.

Beams from the old lighthouse
illuminate the night sky.
Holding you close I can feel
the beating of your heart and I
cling to you like the wet moss
gathering along the rocky shore.

I want this moment to last forever.
You were my safe place, my
shelter as the storms of life
rolled in trying to engulf me with
heartache and tears.

Standing cheek to cheek while
dawn is slowly breaking you kiss me,
drawing me in even tighter.
I gingerly reach for your hand
but am met with only emptiness.

It is then I feel your body start to disappear.
My arms fall suddenly to my sides and
I watch as you slowly fade away
into the ghostly mist rising
from the sea.
