Children of Darkness

Children of Darkness

A Poem by Dara
"

Reposting a bit of Halloween fun.

"
Tis damp and cold as night draws near
whilst children of the dark
begin to appear.

Their long slim shadows creep and crawl
along silent streets
as nighttime falls.

They have no face nor clothe their frame
no heart or soul to
bear their name.

Fallen angels that haunt the earth
in search of prey
as they slither forth.

Dear Dara, this well crafted poem sent a little shiver down my spine. There is something really disturbing and eerie about children of darkness. You usually think of children as innocents. You have captured my imagination with this write.

I love the rhythm of this poem, fast paced. It has an eerie feeling or vibe to it. The last stanza,

"Fallen angels that haunt the earth
in search of prey
as they slither forth." Makes me think that children of the darkness is not actual children like I initially assumed. If makes me think of demons or ghosts that somehow change their appearance to look like children... even though it is not Halloween season right now, this poem definitely has a unsettling and eerie feeling, perfect for when Halloween rolls around. Nicely written!!

Yikes i hope there isn't a creature like that either.
Clever, engaging poem Dara. Seems like it could be the beginning of a story... As the last sentence feels like it could go on.
I enjoyed the scary ride..

I liked the darkness of the poem. It had a haunting image to it and left feelings of ghost like dreams. It seemed surreal

Thank you! Just letting my imagination have a go at Halloween. Great to see you here.
This is very dark , in a way, could it be a dream? these children you mention are such poor souls, it's hard to believe they are real. Great images to describe this kind of "SCI-FI " poem.
Well done.
Best, B.

Thank you and I am happy that you enjoyed my bit of Halloween fun. Take care!
This reminds me so much of the movie "Village of the Damned" where the kids stayed in a group, their eyes would light up and then something bad would befall a victim....
creepy, and wonderfully creepy poem.
