For the Love of Abbey

For the Love of Abbey

A Poem by Dara
"

It was love at first sight.

"

A tiny bundle of tawny colored fur
I cradled you in one hand.
Your eyes had barely opened.

I could feel your little heart beating
as I stroked the velvety soft spot
behind your ears.

At that moment you felt
light as a feather in my hand
and I knew you were the one.

“I think I will call her Abbey.” I said
to my young grandson.

And so it began, our journey
together in a lifetime of love
until the ‘Rainbow Bridge’ beckons.

animals have unconditional love for their owner... it's so amazing to watch.... we had twin mutts , one was killed by a car and the other one lived to be 17... amazing for a dog. Your soft words here mirror the love you have for this little furry that you share with your grandson.

Gee
Gotta love 'em.
Our 15 and half year old spaniel passed away in June, devastating, but thinking back on all of the joy and love it is well worth the heartache. Have a 2 1/2 year old black cocker spaniel still, he's crackers.
Enjoyed the read, enjoy the wee pup :))

What a beautiful poem. It reminds me of Merlin my short haired green eyes black cat who passed a few years back. He was abandoned and his mother would not nurse him. A friend recognized what was happening and immediately removed this sickly new born for fear the mother would eat him to keep the other kittens from getting sick. I saw this tiny little thing and automatically felt a kinship. For weeks I poured milk onto my fingertip and watched as he slowly nursed from it. He was more then a best friend to me. He was like my spirit animal and companion in heart. I will never forget him. You poem reminds me of those better days. Thank you.
