Even tho I love what you're saying & how you say it, I am left wondering -- WHY WAIT? Why is this about the autumn of one's life? Why couldn't it be all life? Being autumnal myself, I admit we fallible humans do not take the time to be kind & caring & patient while we're in the thick of living, with all the stresses & sinewaves of motion. But then we get old & we have time to consider the life we've led. That's why we wait, but your poem doesn't really have to! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Maybe it has something to do with slowing down a bit and not getting caught up in the overwhelming day to day things that we get tangled up with when we are younger. But definitely should not wait! Thank you for sharing your insight and inspiring words.
a couple of minutes earlier before diving into your profile, i read one of the poetry called 'Roses with scents of Sage and Romance' by Patricia Wedel.. and every time when it comes to Autumn, often times, it reminds me some good ol' moments; the memories of ol' passing seasons...
... each stanza talks to a reader here. beautiful art.

I am glad you enjoyed it. Now the question is when do we enter the stage of ‘winter’? I for one hope to hold off for a long time. My grandmother lived to be 102, yikes!! Anyway, I hope you and your family are staying safe throughout this pandemic. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. You always bring a smile to my face. :-D

I love the allegory here....we reach our autumn and realize so many things we could have done better, so many things we could have appreciated more and we learn from all of that to take our future days one at a time. We learn to embrace each hour, each minute on this earth, and understand our winters, springs and summers brought us to this point...an appreciation of we have had and the life we got to live.
Love this poem.

What really wows me is remembering my own parents at the same age. I am so happy you enjoyed my poem. Thank you so much for the read and sharing your thoughts. Firstly what a beautifully presented poem, Dara, it draws the reader into it at once.. the colour of the font is true as true, too. As to your words, they are wonderfully sincere and as near a gift that a poet could give. Life should allow people to learn more about themselves and the people they live amongst or even recognise over time. Thank you so very much,, your words are memorable. x

My thoughts as I grow older are becoming more nostalgic every day plus there is more time than usual to dwell on them. I am thrilled that you enjoyed my poem. As one who I would consider to be in the ‘spring’ of your life you can still relate and appreciate the thoughts behind it. My goal to “hold onto the autumn of my life” is intense. I have never been as fond of winter so entering that stage will take quite a bit of preparation. ;-) Always wonderful to see you here. Take care dear poet!

Have to say however, some of the most wonderful people i know, are 'walking history' and they are well into the Autums of their livess.. They have those varying colours that life's left them with ~ I truly mean that.
Prepare for your Winter best you can, layer self and home.. Plus, hang cartoons on a wall and magnets with silly quotes on the fridge and ~ make music. (Makes stick up to self to do same!) Anthing to keep you grinning, warm!
Sending warm wishes and many.. keep safe, smiling and more, dear friend,. x

On those darker days we can look to the stars for hope. May your day be filled with hope filled moments dear Emma!
A very nice look at acquired wisdom here. In the autumn of life we all hopefully will have gained the ability to view our lives this way. Unfortunately, some don't, and they miss the whole point of coming here in the first place.
