The Mama Otter

The Mama Otter

A Poem by Dara
"

Just a fun write for Mother’s Day.

"

Once there was a mama otter
whose baby swam into the water
even though she shouldn’t oughter
swim so deep into the water.

Then mama otter went to the water
to save her baby as she oughter.
With a sudden, wet, grasp she caught her
and got her baby from the water.

So the moral is a mama otter
if she finds her baby deep in water
will swim like her own mama taught her
and do everything to save her daughter.

A great metaphor this is! Animals and humans think alike and behave alike in many ways; this is a perfect example of what we teach our kids ( to swim) and what a mother or father would do to save the life of their own when called to do so; a knee jerk reaction.... well done Dara, a positive comment on human nature....best, Betty xo

Thank you again! I thought the photograph was so adorable I had to write something about it. :-)
Adorable.

I don't know if you did this on purpose but I couldn't help but make the phonetic connection between 'mama otter' and 'alma mater'. Especially at the end, with the bit about remembering what her 'mama otter' taught her. I'm probably just making weird connections that aren't there though.

Regardless of all that non-sense, this is a really cleverly cute little poem.

Thank you! It was fun to write.
If only I could show this to my mum.
See mum you just don't throw people into the water and think they can automatically swim.
Though something tells me the answer would be, are you alive and can you swim, and did you see the price of swimming lessons.
