By The Sea

By The Sea

A Poem by Dara
"

description of a perfect day

"

I listen to the sound of the waves rolling onto shore

covering the sand like a salty wet blanket,

drowning out the noise in my head.

I am besieged by thoughts and feelings of regret

of things I should have done, could have done

but 'life' got in the way…… or so it seems.

Sitting at the ocean’s edge, I feel the cares of the world slip away,

not unlike the water as it drifts back to sea

after each wave reaches shore then rolls away again.

I glance over at my best friend who is

sitting beside me with eyes closed, lost in thoughts of her own.

To her it never mattered how much weight I gained or lost,

the color or length of my hair,

or how many times I allowed my heart to be broken.

She is as steadfast as the omnipresent azure sky,

an island in the sea of life where I can always find

a place to unload my troubled heart.

As we leave I feel a surge of renewed energy

and peace of mind that comes only after cloudy thoughts

and sequestered emotions are washed away

in the presence of the rolling tides.

I watch as the salty sea breeze whips across

the sand like a benevolent genie

and I feel whole again, ready to face the world

until the next time………

very nice. can well relate. i feel the exact same way every time I'm at the shore. nature is a gift to us. there is a mystery to the sea that washes away and refreshes. like the thoughts, feelings and everything about this ... :)

I do indeed like this.I, too feel like this when I visit the beaches around me. The forests as well. Connecting with things so much larger than me that my worries just disapear.
