The title comes directly from the Beatle's song.

Take me to a place where I

can sing for you a lullaby,

of sunshine and roses

and the ocean blue

so many songs

I would sing

for you.

 

As you lay there quietly

breathing deep

fighting hard against

the eternal sleep

let my voice carry you

to those parts unknown

while lovingly I sing

these old familiar songs

 

No need to talk for the time is near

let go and let God

your prayers were heard.

So close your eyes now

your work is done

may you rest in peace

Author's Note

This poem is about the time I was able to spend with my dad in hospice. He couldn't talk well so I sang to him which made him seem more at peace. He died April 18th from congestive heart failure. May he rest in peace.

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear this sad news. Of heart disease, I know too much, but no matter the cause of his passing, there's no doubt an empty spot in the world now exists. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of you and others who loved him. How sweet of you to accompany him to the gates with song.
