Men Are Made for Leavin'

Men Are Made for Leavin'

A Poem by Dara

Though love runs deep

making young hearts beat

such feelings can be

deceiving.

They can come and go

like the wind and snow,

in their wake turning joy into

grieving.

And time after time

this ol’ heart of mine

though strong, with pain keeps

heaving.

Throwing my hands in the air

asking God in prayer

were men only made for

leaving?

Having lost several prominent male figures in the last two years to terminal illnesses and the prospect of losing my father who is almost 90, this poem came to me suddenly.

it's very important to forgive people leaving us (willing or not), and keeping close to heart the legacy they left behind with us ..the warmth they gave , the love they taught and the battles they won .. loosing someone is a drowning grief , but i promise eventually you will swim ..some people are meant to go , some to stay ..having lost people i really love i know what it feels like .thank you for being so strong, my dear .

There is.. We are all far more strong than we let ourselves to believe.
:)
poignant and so sentimental .. such a gracious God to always be with us ...and we do get blessed when we throw up our hands to God in prayer ..men especially being recognized for "fixing" all things wrong .. and having triple the hardship in "letting" go and "letting" God ...your poem brings to mind those, in my life, now gone and touches me heart ... soft beauty midst the pain in this poem of yours ..well done says i!

As an aspiring lyricist I'm with Carolynn on this one Dara - it really does read like a wonderful song. A country song that Tammy Wynette or Patsy Cline might have sang - a sure hit.
Thank you for sharing and thank you for your review of my poem and especially for the lovely things you said about seeing me back on WC.
You're a truly lovely soul. I pray for your daddy.

Thank you so much. I hadn't noticed before but you're right. It does have a sort of songlike effect.
Beautifully written with a delicate pen. I'm sorry for your losses. I'm sure you made their time that much better for having known you.

I'm reminded of the song, "Where have all the flowers gone?" Mortal life's end awaits us all, and if we're lucky, we'll have been loved enough for someone like you to lament our passing.
