She Was Somebody's Daughter

She Was Somebody's Daughter

A Poem by Dara
"

For Maleah

"

She was well loved and knew

friends and family who

all thought she was

 special and kind.

Her smile lit up the room

dispelled fear and gloom

and  could ease

a troubled mind.

But her life came undone

cut short by the gun

of a man with

 evil intent.

No thought did he give

of the life she would live,

his demons were grossly

hell-bent.

They laid her body in

a simple coffin

wearing a dress her mama

 had bought her.

Now he sits in a cell

contemplating hell

knowing she was

somebody’s daughter.

Author's Note

Dara
Shot in the head by a drive by on Christmas Day. There are those who are worried about losing their guns while parents worry about losing their children. I believe our priorities are messed up.

these horrific inexplicable tragic deaths leave most human beings bereft of intellect ..there is no sense that can be made ..only the grieving and pain of loss ... all her potential from conception on .... is lost to this world .. leaving all those questions ..what she may have become .. poor poor parents and family .. there is way enough suffering in the world each day isn't there ... may God have mercy and strengthen us all :(

What a moving poem this is. I had goosebumps reading it, Dara. Yes, there are far too many children killed in "accidental" and "drive by" shootings. There are so many on the news each day that we have become, as a society, hardened to them. It is tragic that the gun laws have not been changed....perhaps in the near future we can see that happen. What a wonderful tribute this is. Lydi**

What a beautifully sad poem you've laid before us, Dara... the truth and nothing but and should never. never,. NEVER have happened. What kind of society makes it possible for an innocent wee child to be shot by a gun.wielding thug. Sorry, hate guns, hate meaningless death and the theme of your writing just highlights a great blot on moral legislature.

Just a year old, how utterly tragic this is. Too much loss in this world now, we seem to have become inured to violence, I wish with all my heart for it to change; but I wonder if it ever will.

My heart goes out to the whole family.

This is a beautiful tribute to the victim of senseless volence (not that any volence makes sense) It has become sad to say a all too common tale. . Blessing to the family of this innocent child.
