Upon That Distant Shore

Upon That Distant Shore

A Poem by Dara

Minutes seem like hours,

the ticking of the clock

keeping rhythm

like a drum

to the beating

of my heart.

Time passes slowly

as I wait for him to rise.

Oh how I long to

kiss his lips

and gaze into

his eyes.

Will he ever really know

the depth of my emotion?

Set sail would I

to reach his side

across a raging ocean.

But for now I must

be patient

my love a treasure store

until which time

I reach for him

upon that distant shore.

Wow!! I love your poetry. This totally just reminded me of my very first poem. The only poem I know by heart. I can't believe it been so long since I've thought about it. It will be the next one I post. :)

The title made me think of Poe and his poem "Lenore." I thought he used "shore" to rhyme with the name, but upon checking, I see he didn't. I'm not sure why I made the connection, but certainly, they're both about a lost lover who's now beyond that impermeable veil. Yours is fantastically well-written, and thinking about it all now, it's rather chilling.

Well-said, passion flower.
This is such a beautiful piece, Dara... it may be many moons old but clearly offers the reader who connects an opportunity to think of those who still remain on those unvisited shores... I like the flow of this, too, as it's like the gentle rise and fall of waves on the ocean... nice work, my friend :)
