Those Were the Days

Those Were the Days

A Poem by Dara

Tanned by the sun, fit and lean

riding horses bareback, swimming in the stream

jogging down the road, breathing easily

Those were the days.

Listening to John Denver, strumming my guitar

singing songs of love while gazing at the stars

dreaming of that “someone” who would hold me in his arms

Those were the days.

Hugging babies closely, watching them sleep at night

hearing him say “I love you” made everything seem right

knowing they would be around to share the morning’s light

Those were the days.

Oh, my, were they ever. Sometimes I dream about swimming, climbing or other youthful things I used to do, but then I wake up winded. Not all is lost, however, as I do still strum my guitar and take an occasional motorcycle ride. Thanks for these exciting words that took me back.
