Those Were the Days

Those Were the Days

A Poem by Dara

Tanned by the sun, fit and lean

riding horses bareback, swimming in the stream

jogging down the road, breathing easily

Those were the days.

Listening to John Denver, strumming my guitar

singing songs of love while gazing at the stars

dreaming of that “someone” who would hold me in his arms

Those were the days.

Hugging babies closely, watching them sleep at night

hearing him say “I love you” made everything seem right

knowing they would be around to share the morning’s light

Those were the days.

I was expecting All In The Family but instead was greeted by a beautiful nostalgic piece that has given me pause to reflect on my own bygone days. I enjoyed the musical flow in this piece and lingered for a while over the JD comment as he has been one of my favorite singers of all time (I sing and play his music from time to time)... those were the days, indeed!

Sometimes I just wish, even for a day, to have a 'fast rewind', to relive the happy moments :-)

This is so beautiful. Truly, it is. It makes me want to appreciate every day I have on this earth as a young woman. Can't take these things for granted!

P.S. If you wouldn't mind checking out my novel, HIM, I'd truly appreciate it. I'd like to send it off for publishing but won't until I feel I have enough feedback. I think people forget that it's 20 chapters long. Haha. Most only comment on one or two chapters. So everything in between & the ending is neglected with barely any commentary. It's kind of frustrating.

Thank you Pat for this warm review.
Those days will continue to live on within us, Dara...just as I can still hear John Denver's melodic voice!

How I wish our babies stayed babies - longer!

The days, they were. Thank you, darling Dara, for this cherished glimpse into your rear-view mirror.
I can almost hear him singing...
