Sands of Time

Sands of Time

A Poem by Dara
"

Dedicated to Noel and his dog "She".

"

Somewhere in the distance

along a quiet celestial shore,

a man and dog stroll side by side

their souls united once more.

He pats her head and she wags her tail

then gives his hand a lick.

He arches his back his muscles flexed

swiftly throwing her a stick.

“Good girl!” he says as she comes racing back

then nuzzles him from behind

and they continue their walk

their footprints embedding

on those golden sands

 of time.

another piece that sits within the heart and penetrates the soul...the forming goosebumps tell me i have already responded to your poem but i have to say that this really touches me at a personal level...for years my mom walked my old dog Rufus...every time she picked up her sneakers he was to the door, waiting...while she was dying from a cancer that would not let go Rufus stayed by her side...one evening, Ii overheard her telling him that is she died before he did she wanted him to be buried with her...my mother passed a few months later...five years later i had to have Rufus euthanized and his ashes are now sitting on my mother's grave...two years ago my sister was visiting a friend in another part of the country and for kicks had a reading done by a psychic...she asked the psychic if she could tell her how our mother was doing on the other side...the psychic said that our mother was at peace and spent her days walking a little brown dog...there is no way that psychic could have known anything about Rufus, my little brown dog that my mother so dearly loved... so maybe, just maybe, Noel is spending his day;s walking 'she' and perhaps he's met my mom and Rufus along the way....thanks for sharing your beautiful poetry :)

This is good on many levels.
I liked the imagery you have painted and again, must say, how soothing it is to read.

I believe in what the ancient texts (Vedas, Mahabharata) have to offer on death; that the departed stay back for some time to comfort the grieving, and are around us even though it may not seem so and even to be known; what I intend to actually say is your friend is with you in spirit and must be very happy to know someone remembers him in good faith... you should not be sad, he'll know.

A great dedication.. Thank you for sharing this :)

Your poem is a dear tribute to a cherished friend.
My apologies, Dara, for stealing words from Tennyson, but they seem fitting for such a time as this...

"Good fortune had your good man, for were I dead who is it would weep for me?"
