Her Secret Garden

Her Secret Garden

A Poem by Dara

Her garden is nestled

at the foot of a hill

'midst rivers and valleys

looking lush and tranquil.

Filled with roses, tulips,

and flowers so rare,

it lies there exposed

to the sun and the air.

Breathing life

into petals soft and round,

the roots drink hungrily

from under the ground.

With patience and love

the garden awaits

the handsome young gardener

as he enters her gate.

His hands, rough though gentle

and tanned by the sun,

attend to her flowers

caressing each one.

Like a long lost lover

 returning home from the sea,

he handles the blossoms

 so tenderly.

This is an awesome poem. I had a flashback of my grandfather. He raised since I was a little boy and he was always out in his garden. This gave me a picture that made me happy. Thanks for sharing, I really liked it!

Thank you Stephen. I am so glad it may have put a smile on your face.
And your review Chris, it's a standard set for what review are about. Your comments were taken on, and changes made. What poetic energy you have. Since the changes I have increased my point allocation to 98. A classic poem indeed, and I am not biased.

'Midst or amidst? You establish a fine rhythm that stumbles in the middle then recovers well. This is a gentle and soft-toned piece.

It better matches the rhythm you established when your poem is read aloud.

Oh to be that gardener! I agree fully with Rico x. This poem's very unique and quaintly erotic, and obviously very original. Does it deserve 95 points? I think so!
