Newborn

Newborn

A Poem by OnceUponATimeWriter
"

The world is too big

"

I stare up at them, my new eyes blinking,

What is this that I have been so rudely ripped into,

A world of noise and soft

Coos and awwws and oh so cutes,

It’s not enough

That I had to leave my warm nest,

Do I have to be forced into the harsh light

Like an animal at the zoo,

I wasn’t ready to leave,

I wanted to stay

Curled in the dark and quiet

With only one voice for company,

But that voice had other ideas,

And the voice is talking to me

Only now it has a face

And a smile so wide I think its skin might split,

I reach up to touch it,

It’s wet,

It’s crying

Like I want to,

I don’t know why,

It wasn’t taken from the only thing its known

Into a world that doesn’t make sense,

But the voice is warm

And reminds me of my home,

I cry,

This world is too big for me.
