![]() Sunset on a Summer DayA Poem by John Alexander McFadyen![]() Watching the day recede.![]() The air has
cleared, cool blue
and cool pink infusing
through the copper
leaves of the ornamental plum as the sun
sets from a sky that warmed
us at long
last. An evening
breeze takes the
night shift from the
wafting light winds
of the day. Silence
slips back into its rightful
place across my
back garden. Evening
birds take a supper of seeds and
sunflower hearts and nuts
before bed. Even a group
of missile thrushes stop by
(although I fear Dave, the cat next
door, took the Jay). I sit at my
computer, barbeque
supper heavy in my
gut, and watch as
the last the day's
light is sucked
slowly into the
darkening of night's
heaven. And I know tomorrow will once
again bring us
summer at last. 27/06/19 © 2019 John Alexander McFadyenAuthor's Note
