Still Seeking

Still Seeking

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Darwin says we will forever seek.

"

Constantly looking

past the face

and beyond,

hoping

something else

will come along.

Something better,

more fulfilling, more exciting,

younger perhaps,

sexier, more independent

and definitely

sexually liberated.

Restless for the chase,

for the big game hunt

to continue.

Locking stares

grasping at glances,

ready to leave half

gnawed carcasses

to rot

in favour

of fresh meat.

Perhaps there will

be a feast

of warmer flesh

or simply

only starvation

in the parched

wilderness

to show

for all

the trouble.

The grass is always greener.... what must it takes for people to feel satisfied. There is a sense of negativity in this write, speaking of meat, carcasses and starvation. The imagery actually turns my stomach slightly and I like how you throw this mentality into question.

This is exceptional in revealing the restlessness in human behavior, the dissatisfaction that so many people struggle with which brings me to this cliche: it's always greener on the other side of the fence. And how many times have most of us experienced this with a good-looking stranger: "Locking stares /grasping at glances.

This is an excellent write!

Bravo!

Indeed that cliche has legs and many will have fallen foul of it. Many thanks DAH

My pleasure, John!
Wonderful poem you wrote here, John.
The more we seek, the more we get. And the more we get, the more we seek again, that is why man is never satisfied, they always always aimed at bigger game.

Very interesting poem. It's getting harder to connect people with the improvements of technology but it is also getting easier to communicate with people.

not sure Darwin was referring to the "seven year itch John ;) nor the evolution of the grass that got greener ... you know... on the other side of the hill :))))))))

Indeed so Chris. Many thanks.
Those half-eaten rotting carcasses did pinch me somewhere but that’s everyone’s inevitable end. I like to think our primal ruthlessness is tempered by millennia of painstakingly cultivated human emotions but then I may be kidding me. A slap in the face! Very effective poem John.
