Beyond The Face

Beyond The Face

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Linked senyru

"

Inside lies a man

wrapped in a blanket of pain,

lost in misery.

Within lies a soul

caught up in such misery,

hiding in this pain.

Deep down there is hope,

if you reach inside his heart

and repair its strings.

Thank you again Coyote. Good to see you are still supping in the Cafe.
Beautiful, poignant, touching, and most importantly, hopeful.

I am flattered at your indulgence this evening and am glad you enjoyed this one. Many than yous!
This reminds me of some old adage about those who live lives of quiet despair, which I've always felt is often true about humans, especially as I get older & some people my age are slipping away from a youthful buoyant way of seeing life & possibilities. But as your poem shows, there's always a spark of hope & it can be encouraged into a flame. Love the way you state this simply but with heart (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you Margie for such a lovely review.
Great Sting song. We are all fragile....whether we choose to show that to the world or not. Yes, the right person can repair the broken heart. It takes an empathetic soul to reach in and repair those heart strings. A soft and honest poem. Lydi**

Thanks Lydi.
Your shrewd duping of my sense at the start with "inside lies a..."
Instead of "Inside a..."
Then from there the poem is very soft with its question
As soft as one would have to be, I imagine, to repair string...

Ah indeed bleak Sir. many thanks.
It's really cute. I like the flow of words and ideas as they unfold in each stanza. The last stanza is my favorite.

John,
I appreciate the positive ending . . . where there's breath there is hope!

Exactly that. Where their are signs of life we must hope. Thank you Tom.
I enjoyed your three stanza linked senryu. When you pass people in the street you have no idea of their internal suffering. Where there is a glimmer of hope then there are possibilities. The problem lies in finding that glimmer, that hidden spark that can ignite a change in circumstances. Well written.

Thanks Chris. Indeed for many it is reaching out and helping them.
This is a compassionate poem.
There is so much more to people than a smiling or frowning face.
We must uplift ourselves and try our best to uplift others through genuine friendship, smile, listening ears and other positive contributions.
Of course, we can't help or be friends with everyone; but we can try our best.

Well done!

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
