The Silly SeasonA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenHow the Brits love to complain about the weather! The
Silly Season We await the first rays of summer, bemoaning the drear of winter months. We count the days till spring with its promise of relief for ailing bones from damp and frost, from snow and bitter wind. We long to switch off central heating, drain the pipes, and discard the winter coats. We long to open doors and windows, fling them wide to the walls and be freed from stuffy airless rooms, trapped behind dingy, drawn curtains. And yet, when the sun eventually arrives with every brighter morn, and the swelter of June begins, we bemoan that too!
