Farmhouse Kitchen

Cold flagstone floors

and dusty shelves,

beneath a low, oak beamed,

white-washed ceiling.

A scrubbed pine table

bearing the scars

of many years labour

with Sabatier knives,

meat mallets and cleavers.

Pots, all shapes and sizes,

dangle from a rack above.

The soot black range,

stout and proud,

belches heat and roasts a joint

of beef, bakes a loaf of bread

and warms plates,

ready for a hearty feast.

The smell of baking dough

and searing meat fills the space

with drooling appetites.

Atop the stove boiling vegetables

to accompany the crisping,

oven-cooked parsnips and potatoes,

fill the air with sweet moistened steam.

And in readiness,

we await the call

for father to carve,

knowing that soon

we will be replete.

i love the idea of a simple life...sometimes i wish i lived back in the colonial days...when we had just what we needed to live and it was enough.
the world is so different today...we have so much that we don't even appreciate.

Indeed so Jacob. Many thanks for reading.
my senses come alive ...
i can see the beauty of the family center of life, the kitchen
i can smell the wonderful mix of dangerously perfect aromatics
my mouth is standing ready to devour this delightful feast just as my tongue eagerly awaits the licking of goodness from my fingers
i see the bounty of that soon to be shared
i feel the warmth and compassion felt as we again gather as one
come father come ... the feasting awaits

excellent vivid heartfelt enjoyment

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
