Satan's Poison

Satan's Poison

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Some fall so deep.

"

Satan's Poison

There is no time for love

in a heart so blessed by hate.

For therein lies a darkness,

a treacle like molasses

that  binds the soul

to the devil's bidding.

There is no clear,

sparkling, spring water

with which to nourish

and wash away sin,

for the course is set

within a channel

filled with odious venom,

the juice of Hell's serpent.

Like ground black peppercorns

abhorrence spills forth

to sprinkle all it touches

with that snake's saliva,

strangling and destroying

all that once may

just have been good.

Wonderfully descriptive poem. I could paste my favorite parts but most of the poem has a chilling effect to it. There are lines (about the snake) that sound as though they come from the bible as a warning.

Smooth stuff.

Thank you Relic. All down to my lapsed Catholicism.
"Like ground black peppercorns

Although I prefer the melodic side of you, you pen the dark side with great insidious strokes. I do believe I have a chill - masterfully crafted, John!

I enjoyed this poem.

The above lines could stand alone. Hate is a great sickness. Make us see nothing good or worthwhile. Thank you John for sharing the amazing poetry.

Your words are dark and powerful...haunting actually. So many great lines, it is hard to pick my favorite. It is a pleasure to read such great poetry. :) Julie

Apt word, treacle. When you're in it, sticky times lay ahead. Love and hate, both strong words. Yet love starts out first. Like your words.

Thank you Paul. You get it.
wow, intense...evil can be sticky like molasses...we get caught in it...i really like your paradox "blessed with hate"
that increases the power of the poem...the "odious venom" of it all...

Aloha John, that is a spiralling dark write. Graphic imagery really sets the scene, "treacle like molasses" what a great line. It is virtually impossible to wash your self clean of satans touch. The snake is also a graphic and powerful image (great symbolism)....

Dark, frighteningly good. Izzy

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
