Inner Rage

Inner Rage

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Some of us live with Catholic guilt which leaves our blood boiling.

"

Inner Rage

Enter the dragon

in fiery breaths

as the fury takes hold

and shakes me,

Hulk like,

to my very core.

The magma

that sits beneath the surface

needs no heat,

needs not be stirred,

as it is a constant eruption

of hot steam

and molten ire

awaiting a fissure,

a crack from which

to erupt.

Enjoyed this piece very much. You captured it perfectly...the inner beast so many of us hide within. We wrestle the beast into submission...don our polite little masks and smile. Yet, every now and again, the beast comes into its own. I love the last lines:
it is a constant eruption/of hot steam/and molten ire/awaiting a fissure/a crack from which/to erupt.

So rich with emotional imagery...nicely done!

Thank you RW
The serpent never goes anywhere, it lingers close by in the shadows, just waiting to raise its head and hiss, spew its fire. The guilt always follows, sapping one for days. Yet, every eruption kills some part, deep within. Appreciated so much John...

Thank you very much
Amen to this....my goodness, growing up with it...my mom was good at throwing the guilt trips at us ....even into my adulthood, and my sister picked up on it and does it still..

yes that inner storm...the conflict rising from the guilt and destroying the inner calm.
