Treachery's Mark

Treachery's Mark

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When infidelity strikes.

"

Treachery's Mark

You reached for me

and rescued me

from servitude

to a deluded,

schizophrenic mind.

You gave me purpose,

the direction I had lost.

You eulogised

and I felt worshipped

and worshipped you in return.

Indeed I adored you.

I rose up once more

from the ashes of destruction

as you lay at me feet,

your radiant face

turned towards my heart.

You bore me children,

a girl and a boy,

a perfect pair

who, now grown,

radiate our glory

to all who know them.

But you stopped.

Just stopped dead.

Let me feel like

a lesser mortal

as you climbed

seeking your own pinnacle.

You let me feel adrift,

abandoned.

You demanded more,

a better home,

a luxury car.

I was so lost,

I barely recognised

the woman I loved,

until after many cuts

I plummeted into the abyss

of paranoia

where it became plain

I was sane

to your infidelity.

I am sorry of the way your love story turned out in the end, as if you ended up at the same point you started, but lessons have definitely been learned and, still, there are precious moments to remember and sweet children that you both have borne and raised. No matter how it ended, it must have been for the best.

Ah but best for whom? I guess endings are rarely, if ever, without some heartbreak and regret. Many .. read more
the love that changes John, she took what you had and then wanted more, have to agree with Andrew 'A ticket to ride" that's just where this one goes, written with class and style, truly poetic :)

Yes indeed WM there are men and women driven solely by acquisition. Thank you.
Young love is innocent until some age has been had and then some find the simple life they have is not enough. I have to find myself or in reality, I have to find someone with more money and power. For some money and power equal love. And then again is it really love as we all know love is blind. Yes I am rambling.

Rambling perhaps Willard but you got the point. Many thanks.
God it seems the partnership was a victim of its (or rather the breadwinner's) own success.
Moving up in social circles brings a whole new set of pressures (and values) that perhaps might never have been brought to bear on the relationship had success had not been forthcoming - but then again success might not have been forthcoming if the partnership had not initially been supportive and strong. Catch 22.
A real thought provoking tale that has timelessness stamped all over it my talented friend.

Nah tis water under my metaphorical bridge Anto. Many thanks buddy
i could clearly experienece the fall from the pinnacle, of the sad protagonist.Such a tragic fall!
It was as if a story before my eyes.Such detachment from the person whom you used to worship .It strikes the most when they commit this vulgar thing called "infidelity".Very powerful,hard-hitting and emotional writeup.
