Here and Now

Here and Now

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The nest is empty!

"

Here and Now

Not one sound

have I heard today

but the ticking of the clock

and the beating of my heart.

The sound of children's voices

are now distant memories

that can't even pick up

the phone.

I used to rejoice in their

journey and tried so hard

to make it good.

But life is not my guardian angel

as she defies me happiness.

Inside I feel a mix of emotion,

proud that my sires

 are so independent of me,

and sad that I am

the forgotten father.

And so I write my pain

upon pages soaked

in bitter tears.

It is indeed very heartbreaking when you raise, love, and support your children, and then they leave you, taking you for granted, not see you as often, call you even less.

Indeed and they spend more time with her now. Thanks Nadia.
very true John, family can be such a cold thing, a shame when children leave and forget to call or siblings lose contact, a great write relevant to many today i'm sure :)

Thank you Raj.
You could have used Harry Chapin, "Cat's in The Cradle". That song came to me as I read your work. Proud as a parent of the absent child. Making it in the world as you always hoped, but we are not always a much of a part of there lives as we had dreamed and hoped. Such is life. Very nice piece of work.

All that being said, I really enjoy Noah Jones. Been listening to her for years.
