First Kiss

And when the day comes

when our lips should meet,

within the dark shadows

of life’s brutal breaths,

I shall embrace the light.

I shall reach for you

and hold you to my chest,

so that you may feel

my heart beating

and know that you are safe

in my arms.

And you will see

that herein lies

within this simple man,

a passionate soul

that is yours,

and only yours,

for the taking.

I've entered it in two contests. It doesn't fit into anything else. The stage play category is limiting. I wish folks would broaden their category requirements.

For example, both of my so-called "books" are actually short stories (well under 50K words). But, I used the "book" category because of the convenient, built-in page arrangement set up. Most of the short story contests are not open to the "books" category.
