Religions the world over....throughout history...are manmade. though purportedly deity-inspired. All have aspired to provide a moral code to produce social cohesion and the real possibility of a life after death , but man`s inherent ambition to live forever and impose his will on his fellows was always the real motivation.
Unsurprisingly, when push comes to shove, those laudable altruistic ideals will always be distorted. The cranks and extremists of each creed will guarantee discord. I think the Creator might prefer not to be worshipped. P.

Ok I resisted as I felt it might seem somewhat pompus, Besides I was simply an extra!
Agree with you of course, and enjoyed the three poems you sent. A difficult subject ; I believe that all religions when they become organised destroy their original intent. It is the reason I am an agnostic. The Christian Church had crusades that killed millions. Women and Gays are discrimated against. Hinduism implies a caste system that is against human rights. Even Buddhism has been involved in violence. The problem with Islam is often the way we use language. These poeple are not Islamic terrorists, they are simply terrorists. Even your defence ( well minded ) implies the need to defend the faith per se. So let`s talk about good and evil simply as it is ( my POV !)...

I agree and I have no religious faith though stop short of calling myself agnostic, I am also aware that good things and bad things have been done in the name of religion. Currently Islamic terrorists do so under the guise of ridding their world of non believers and many are brainwashed into it being a fight for religious rights. All so very complicated yet as you say simple. Terrorism is just that.
"Muslims are commanded not to kill women, children,
or the aged, not to torture
or otherwise ill-treat prisoners"
I live in the Detroit area. Arab, white, Spanish and black had been getting along along time. I have read what you read. Religion get twisted for people to promote hate and separation. Thank you for sharing your words, knowledge and wisdom. It is needed. The enemy is hate.

Man has always been killing in the name of religion, most "highlighted" are the ones using the name of Islam. It is surprising that people haven't yet realized that this game runs deeper than religious lunacy; they are more like puppets. They are easy to manipulate with all the brainwashing. As for Islam, there has always bit of suppressed something that is so easy to trigger. But Muslims really need to step forward to highlight the real spirit of Islam.

They have spoken out collectively about the spate of beheadings this year. Don't forget the divisions between radicals and non radical Muslims exists in all states. And Christianity, Catholicism and Protestantism have all been responsible for attrocities.

You're welcome. I think we have always spoken against terrorism.
The CIA are highly involved in growing some of these infectious monsters. They should be held to account and their paymasters too. MI5 did the same here in Ireland with loyalist paramilitaries. I lost many friends to proven british agents whose arms were supplied by money that came from MI5 and FRU.
If I helped to create a killer virus today - let it into the wild and it began to mutate and kill and grow and infect, then I would be jailed for life - even executed.
There is a piece missing from this John I fear. Not the whole picture my friend.
Having said that it is a superb piece of commentary.
Bravo!!

Two of my favorite books were 'Harry's Game' Which was also a TV series, and 'Field of Blood' both by Gerald Seymour and which expose much of the double dealing going on over Ireland. Before the sixties and seventies though it was the 'Brits' who sold Ireland out through partition following the Government of Ireland Act in 1920. Oh and did you know that during the fourteenth century their was a Scottish king of Ireland. Robert the Bruce sent his brother to parle with the Irish chiefs but he promptly conquered the country and declaired himself king. Bruce soon put an end to his tomfoolery though at a cost.

The book is called Trigger Men By Martin Dillon - one of Ireland's finest investigative journalists - it deals with british agents who were given carte blanche to murder Irish and British citizens because of their value to Intel. There are things in that book which would make your hair turn white. If one of the incidents occurred in Glasgow there would have been public inquiries up the wazoo. Not one has been held here in respect of the MI5 or FRU whose job it was to foment sectarinism. The same thing the spooks did in Iraq and which gave rise to ISIS. Here is an analogy mate.
If I built a Meth Lab and filled it with ingredients to make meth and walked away then some guys came in and made meth? Who would be blamed?
Irish history holds no mystery for me - I was taught and self taught but the hidden war is yet to be fully revealed. The 'hidden war' in Iraq was partly to blame for the situation you have taken as the subject to your fine work here - and it is admirable my friend - Im not being condascending. Im just saying mate.
We are gaelic brothers, you and I and spirited debate comes as naturally to us as breathing.

Glasgow is a microcosm of Ireland and when I was brought up, in a mixed faith household Catholicism ruled my life. I hate religion used to subjugate, kill and mame, no matter what that religion is. It's a shame when a few radicals or fanatics ruin things for a larger community of people.
It's even worse when we condemn a group of people for the actions of one.

One thing is clear though that once we have created the dna and grown the beast, it has its own head and follows its own creed, feeding to survive and spread its disease. Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the USA all interfered in the natural order of things in complex countries that were fiefdoms rather than soverign states. Hence the chaos. Thanks Ana
those who kill in the name of god...not what he would want.
there are just vicious killers out there, and what is sad is that there are religions and those who practice these different religions who are kind and good...but the religion itself will get a bad name because of a small percentage who use it to destroy.
Let it all out John. No matter what mask it wears...the beginning of your piece has the key word in my opinion...greed. A bit loud, a bit angry, but well spoken.
Loud and angry no will. Full of research! Thank you.

My mistake...perhaps it was my mind that was loud and angry as I read.
