Happy Ending

Happy Ending

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Happy Ending

I remember those sad summers,

laying bare upon the grass,

where passion once had lived

in sweeping, gliding flights

above the sky.

But only sadness left its mark,

soiled fingers on white satin skin

as salty memories seeped

into the wounds you left behind,

and pain was all I had to hold.

I tried so hard to flush out

your pretty poison

of lies and deceit

with the purity of hope’s crystal waters

drawn deep from long dried wells

of arid gritty dreams.

But they had caked salt hard

and only the depth of Karina’s love

could break that spell.

After heartbreak a new love will eventually show itself. At least we can hope. Another lovely write. ;-)

Many thanks A.M.S.....
Salt... makes all things taste good right? hurts in the wounds though :P another clear writing with on spot imagery. I always enjoy your work so much I think, because I relate to it as though we are brothers.

Old love, new love. Faded memories, and memories that stand fast. You always use great word selection. Good work John!

Thanks AHP taking time out on holiday in Norway for a few days.
Beautiful metaphors and images here. I love how this moves from sad to harmonious. All it takes is the love of someone kind and good to offset the worse relationships we've had. Well done here.

Thank you again Lori. It is wonderful how you can find 'life after death'
John, as always I loved it. Loved the description, the imagery and it was metaphorical. I loved it, great job to you!

Sorry John, I have to go with the kimmer and Keith on this one, misleading title...I was expecting confessions of undying love. If someone wrote me a poem with that title I would hope it would speak to how I blow your mind, and you can't breathe/live without me. Men are from Mars....

Hey John, awesome work as always. I do admit that the title seemed a little misleading at first (I was expecting a really romantic poem like you've written in the past) but it wrapped up nicely in the end, which makes the title work in my opinion.

I like it, John, I really do, but here's my one and only issue with the piece: the title suggests this is to be a glowing poem in honor of Karina's love, which would have been so romantic and lovely, but instead it is the same old same old, addressed to the woman (or women) who broke your heart. I like that her love has lifted you out of the depths of despair, but...come on, buddy...stay up there. The air is so much cleaner ;-) With a title like Karina's love, I truly expected to feel all warm and fuzzy after reading it. Instead I feel like you're just, well, rubbing it in to the former lover(s).

But, like I said...I did like it ;-) Thanks for sharing this with us.
