Exploring Aurlandsfjord

Exploring Aurlandsfjord

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Exploring Aurlandsfjord

The fierce, furrowed fjords of my mind

rise in majesty before my eyes.

Sometimes full of dark,

mysterious thoughts,

at others brimming with

the beauty,

and the still deep, blue waters

of tranquillity,

that lay

beneath the shadows

in your warm, dappled sunlight.

And as I contemplate this

lustrous, lush green scene

and breathe the crystal

crisp, clear air,

I am in awe of the

power nature holds

over this weak

and all too mortal flesh.

John,
A very fine poem I say! You wonderfully examine both the beauty and power of creation. I would agree that nature's power can put us in awe . . . as well as it's beauty. Your word choice, structure and phrasing are right on! May I ask where is Aurlundsfjord?

It is and clean!
I like to string words together that start with the same letter. It always helps the phrase to build without excessive rhym.
I like how you wade through nature and her endless adventures and the affect the hold.
Plus it just sounds pretty.

Aurlandsfjord is indeed a beautiful Norweigan fjord.
Many thanks Cherrie.
Beautiful imagery that creates the desired visual impact. The words instill a sense of awe and respect along with the visions of beauty, as is so often the case when one speaks of the forces of nature. The final lines underscores this sentiment, stating how frail and insignificant the human body is in the light of Nature's splendor. The words also instill a feeling of peace (almost inevitably, you use the word "tranquility"), which leaves the reader with a feeling of calm after reading this. Lovely write!

Thank you so very much Leslie!
You breathe all the beauty and colors of nature into the beloved here. Indeed, the beloved feels as lustrous, as tranquil, as majestic and as warm as nature can be.

Thanks John for giving me the pleasure to read this beauty!
