Speak to Me!

Speak to Me!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Speak to Me!

There is no poetry in your silence;

no salvation.

Empty phrases

fill my tortured thoughts,

brutal vacant spaces

where my heart had strayed

and left a treacle trail.

So I live in this fragile,

vacuous bubble,

a place between life and death,

where the carrot of love

once dangled before my ravenous mouth,

and my salivation was guaranteed.

Many thanks KK
I love all of your references to traecle, by the way. The Brit and I found some treacle pudding in the foreign foods section of Publix the other day (it's a grocery store, I assume you gathered) ;-) and I immediately thought of you...

This is a very moving piece, John...that first line made me blink...awesome.

My thoughts exactly!
I love you many images you use to conjure up a painful silence; carrots, treacle trails and bubbles

Thank you Claire hope you are well.
The potent killing power of silence! I understand it totally today on this page. How insecure we become when a loved one falls silent. Better to be struck by a thousand daggers!

No words needed John! You brought out that fear superbly here! Thanks for sharing!

You are welcome. It was a great read.
Like this too, especially the Pavlovian last image, the kind of original thought that only talented poets manage, very good write

Many thank Leslie. I always appreciate your reviews.
The imagery that your choice of words you depicted in this write is a wonderful marriage, with the beauty of the fluidity that you always seem to weave is exquisitely eloquent. gorgeous poem, Mr. McFayden! Then again, I am not surprised. Thanks for sharing :)

Silence is so damaging sometimes. Loved the treacle trail reference - very descriptive.
