The Unknown Soldier

The Unknown Soldier

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Unknown Soldier

Maybe

just maybe

you shouldn’t take on

such a hopeless

casualty of war.

My corpse has lived

 in this conflict zone

too long.

Maybe

Just maybe

it is time to accept

that deaths will occur.

Maybe

we should

bury our dead.

some of us never bury the dead, and we never quite unpack all of our baggage either. it is not easy for many people....to let go of the past and embrace the present or even the future. even an unpleasant past is easy to embrace because we know what it is and have no cause to fear it, it has already occurred, however, the future? a mystery! terrifying to some... awesome write here , John!!!

Not sure how i feel about this one...we bury our dead, we hardly ever put them to rest...there's a difference.

That is life and our choice I guess. Easier said than done Frieda.
Wars will go on till we are around! A grim reality. But one to be accepted and casualties to be dealt with effectively.

A great thought and very effectively conveyed John! Thanks for sharing!

But it is about relationships sweet Divya!
It doesn't escape me that this is not just about war. Or at least not just about war between States. An excellent write.

Many thanks Ken
A fine anti war poem that has, what I like, a realistic undertone that war will never be stopped. A good poem.

Poetry is in the eyes of the reader as we know kind poet.
War will- does - kill us all The pestilence.that afflicts our species is the ruination of us and everything we touch with it. This poem should be a clarion call, but sadly, it will go unheard or unheeded by most. Well penned, John. P.

Thank you so much Pete.
Every casualty makes it home to receive the proper burial. No one is left behind. Not only does burring those that paid the highest cost of war lay their bodies to rest, but it brings closure to those love ones as well. Great piece!

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
