Hurt

Hurt

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Hurt

In this harsh winter

my feelings fade; day to dusk.

Poverty of thought

until my pores are clogged

with the heart blocking cholesterol

of misery.

Frozen salt waters expand

till I am an iceberg, floating

in a cold, vast, ocean of mistrust.

My skin pulled tight

to shut out the chill;

like an overcoat

wrapped around my hollow faith

to stop the pain and hurt

of once warm memories.

And now I fear the thaw,

for although it brings life,

and the joys of spring,

I know that I will suffer

the agonies

 as my circulation returns

and my soul awakens.

You indulge me Kiran and I an grateful. Many thanks!
Well, there's good cholesterol and there's bad cholesterol...I'm just amazed somebody actually used that word in poetic verse...about damn time, too ;-) I love the sentiment in this piece, shaking off the old wariness, giving in to trust, those needle and pin pains as the circulation returns. Powerful stuff, John. I love it...

Very well done! The last four lines cinch up the thoughts quite nicely. Love is such a paradox of pleasure, fears, pain, and joy. Hopefully, we have more shared moments in the positive than in the negative.

This certainly has your name written all over it, elegant in it's delivery, and stirring emotions on a personal level for everyone.

Frozen salt waters expand
till I am an iceberg, floating
in a cold, vast, ocean of mistrust.

Stunning, as always....

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
