Unrequited Love

Unrequited Love

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Unrequited Love

Between a rock and hard place,

is where I exist,

trapped in the currents

swept up in love’s bliss.

And as I tread water

I sink as I swim,

deep in the mire

of the struggle within.

But I cannot turn back,

I am gone far too long,

there's no moving forward,

I was never that strong.

So I can't go on hoping

that one day you will

fill all of the dreams

as I would fulfil.

And it makes no sense,

no sense at all,

that I struggle to reach you,

and you won’t break my fall.

So when will I start listening,

when will I hear?

that you really don’t want me,

when will it be clear?

Between a rock and a hard place

is the place where I lay,

between a rock and a hard place

is where I can’t stay.

You're welcome.
Silly Brits...I was like, John is writing in the future now?? Heh, I guess I never really noticed you date your pieces at the end. Holy observant kimmer. And, of course, on my side of the pond, we write MM/DD/YY not DD/MM/YY xD

Meanwhile, I really liked this piece...thanks so much for sharing it with us. I'll keep my eyes open for those pesky backward dates from now on ;-)

Absolutely ;-)
I agree with Sheema; I think we have all felt something like that.
Beautifully written as always John.
Just hope that all is alright with you and your lovely lady; if for nothing else than we can't have you running around Northampton being all single and stuff can we now ;-)

This has a familiar ring to it. I believe I have written something very similar. Nice work.

Nice one John! Well penned. The misery trap I call it. You're trapped in love but misery bites you because it is unrequited. Your poem describes it perfectly! :( and :)

Thank you so much Allan and have a good weekend
This has a jaunty rhythm which contrasts with the sense of frustration in the poem. Perhaps, like the tides, you just have to wait.......

Hi Claire, not from current experiences. Stimulated by reviewing a poem this morning. Thank you have.. read more
Sooner or later you will float. After that, someone is destined to find you. Resuscitate you. Bring you back to life. You will be thankful for that someone and marry her--or him. You will get married. Buy a house. She will get pregnant--or adopt a child. You will buy a huge a*s van. Raise your kid--or kids. Kick them out when they turn 18--or spoil them until they're 45. After all these hardships, you will live the rest of your obsolete life in peace and harmony with your wife--or husband.
