ShamalA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenShamal I
left my heart beneath the arid desert
sun; scorched and dehydrated, beaten
and forlorn. she
swanned away full-sail with
the cool trade wind brushing at
her hair, and she did not look back. I
have long since been trapped in that desolate and
harsh terrain, my parched pain etched
into my dry cracked and
blistered mouth. Passing
Bedouin have stopped on occasion to
break bread and moisten my lips with
promises never kept, that they would
lead me to the oasis. But
with only rocks and
specks of hard cutting sand for
peace, eventually I
laid down to leave this place, a
welcome release to see deaths face, to
hear her sweet chill calling. But
as my spirit rose to leave I
heard your voice, your soft song, herald
me to find my strength, to
fight for every breath. It
was the whisper of an angel, silk
in my mind moistening
my desire to
an ecstasy of full
orgasmic triumph. I
rose up my
own resilient and tenacious Bruce and
faced the gentling night Shamal upon
which you wafted to me. No
mirage, you
brought me breads and many exciting
and exotic fruits with
which to moisten my desiccated skin and
nourish my neglected soul. You
ask for nothing in return but
to give, and
so now I too give myself to
you in
honour and in praise and
in trust of
our complete and perfect love. 30/12/12 © 2012 John Alexander McFadyenReviews
