Kumamoto Hunger

Kumamoto Hunger

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Kumamoto Hunger

I never fathomed

how to use one of those

oyster knives.

Can’t even remember

what they are called;

which is sad

as it shows my ignorance,

and perhaps a lack

of sophistication.

But neither have I

managed to work out

how to prize the mild,

slightly sweet flesh

from between the shells

of relationships,

and that my friend

is even sadder.

I really like this, original with a clever central metaphor, sustained well and packed in a perfectly paced frame.

This is easily one of your best poems I have read! And it needn't even be said.

You're welcome!
The anology here is great...the meat of an oyster, the meat of a relationship...
Both must be so delicately handled...

Then I am humbled in no short measure!
wow! i am stunned by the clairty here.

honestly this outspeeds the moment, circles it, like a cloud thats swims round the moon in a bright sea, and exhalts it with prayer!

the best poem i've read today.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
