Black Dogs

Black Dogs

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Black Dogs

Black dogs live within us.

Satan’s beasts strain at the leash,

Waiting for their chance to strike;

To devour human nature,

The human heart,

The spirit; the soul.

To swamp our consciousness

And overwhelm us in fear.

They stand across our path

When our faith is shaken,

Heads stooped, black eyes menacing;

Sensing an easy kill.

Striking terror,

Removing all hope

Of our own redemption;

Helpless we stand transfixed.

Yet are we just easy prey,

To stand subdued to fate?

When in our mortal being

Lays such an awesome power.

Seek out your strength,

Liberate your sword,

Release your Godly self,

And cast out those savage creatures.

Thank you.
Awesome! I have never envisioned my blackness as dogs, it was, rather, a seeping darkness that crowded out the light inside myself, crushing all hope. I love "release your Godly self". It is such the truth when facing that inner battle.

I guess sometimes we do and at others we need help.

We all have an inner beast, question is if we have the strength to beat it/them down.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
